MITHILA- THE GLORY OF BIHAR.

Mithila ,also known as Tirhut and Tirabhukti is a region in Bihar (INDIA) limited by Mahananda River in east ,Ganga in south ,Gandaki River in west,and by the lower regions of Himalayas.it basically include major portion of Bihar including places such as Madhubani,Begusarai ,Bhagalpur,Darbhanga,East champaran ,Khagaria ,Madhepura,Saharsa,Munger,Muzzaffarpur,Samastipur,Sitamarhi,Supaul,Vaishali, and west champaran.The native language spoken in this region is Maithili, and peoples are known as Maithils.

HISTORY

The name was derived from Miti which means soil.Janakpur(Birth place of Goddess Sita) was the capital of Mithila in ancient time.This place is renowned for being birth place of Goddess Sita.This name is videha Kingdom .In eighteenth century when Mithila was managed by Raj Darbhanga , the british Raj added this region without recognizing it is an independent state .Conflicts were held between peoples for the division of the region on linguistic basis, but was denied by the local government of that time.It existed in the eastern Gangetic plains in areas which is today spread over more than half of Bihar state of India, and parts of adjoining Nepal. Mithila was the capital of Videha Kingdom as per epic Ramayana. Thereafter several dynasties such as Vajjisangh, Lichhavis, Shaishunag, Nand, Maurya, Shung, Kant, Gupta, Vardhan etc. ruled there from time to time. There was no significant ruler in Mithila after Janaks till 5th–6th century when Jaywardhan Raja Salhesh became King. He made his capital at Mahisautha-Siraha (presently in Nepal). He defended the region against attacks by Tibetans several times. Hence, he was called Shailesh (king of Mountains) from Jaywardhan which in local dialect was called Salhesh

CULTURE

Mithila or Maithil culture refers to the way of life which started in the Mithila area. Mithila culture is well known for its language, dance, Paag(headgear), celebrations, Madhubani Paintings, food, and above all, the existence which was spent by Buddha and Mahavir. Both Mahavir and Buddha have lived and talked in Mithila.

language is spoken basically in the Bihar and Jharkhand in the locale of Darbhanga, Begusarai, Katihar, Purnia, Madhubani, Dhanbad, Munger, Muzaffarpur, Deoghar, Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Ranchi, Sitamarhi, and so on .

Dahi – Chuda, Ghughani, Sattu, Litti-Chokha, Kadhu Bar, Makhana Kheer, Tilkor Tarua, Mithila. Maus(Mutton/Cheicken/Squails Curry), Machchak Jhor(Fish Curry) and many more forms the most famous and regular dishes of Mithilanachal.
